Jonathan Berman

Age: 50

Home town: Boca Raton, Florida

Occupation: Plastic Surgeon

Past history of sports participation : All New York State Golf 1976, 1977. Active Skier, forever! Recent cyclist: started October 2009. Imagine spending $2300 on a bicycle! Who'd believe it!

Primary athletic focus currently: Love to cycle. Great for my health. Really enjoying the exercise, camaraderie, and technology. Not too mention that it is very good for your heart!

Favorite training or racing experiences: Finishing the PALS Metric Century 3 weeks ago. Didn't think I could ever ride that much! Really psyched to do the MS-150. Another threshold, I believe that I can do it! Dara is going to help me do it!

Races/events completed this year: Races, ha! Completed PALS ride. MS-150 in three weeks! Alive!

Personal Records/Best races: Cycling this far without a crash!

Athletic achievement/s you are most proud of: Finishing the NY State Championships in Golf placing top 10 in 1977. (Yeah, I know I was 17. Then I went to college and medical school.) Played Varsity Golf at Yale 1977-1978. As for cycling, completing the PALS ride in February(March?) was an important step in the right direction. Was unsure that I could ride 63 miles. You gotta start somewhere!

Goals for the coming year/season: I will never be Lance! I don't think I will ever pedal 25-30 miles per hour. That is for the youngsters. But, I can play golf with Tiger. I have been doing that since I was a little tike. I want to cycle correctly and felt that hiring a superstar like Dara would be helpful: I know the learning curve and training curve is steep but I wanted to elude bad habits early. I already bonked before my training with Dara and certainly didn't want to do that ever again! I want to be able to go on cycling holidays. See USA and Europe. Want to see many other places on a bicycle. Maybe even ride in Tuscany!

Races you are planning on next season: I will probably ride most of the zmotion rides.

Favorite racing and/or training tip: In this sport, endurance is the key. As always, practice, practice, practice. Here I get it: ride, ride ride!

Additional comments/info: Dara is enthusiastic, insightful and helpful. Like Golf, cycling is a very individualistic activity. All progress is made by the motivation of the individual participant. That you have an insightful coach that recognizes this and works within the framework of that individual is key. Dara is able to do that---she works with guys like me and other real SUPERSTARS. That is the sign of a smart coach. Helping each and every individual achieve realistic goals and some! To help each of us find that we can go a bit further….That is the, key isn't it? On the lighter side, I am a sucker for a delightful British accent! Amazing how much nicer everything sounds when you put a little bit of Brit in it! Right? Cheerio!
