Ralph Czekalinski
Age:
56
Home town:
Plantation, Florida
Occupation:
Work in I/T - but I am not a GEEK
Past history of sports participation :
Actually not much - I ran every morning to stay fit - but nothing serious. Heck I played in the band in High School !<
Primary athletic focus currently:
Bicycling and more Bicycling
Favorite training or racing experiences:
First time I met Dara I rode up A1A with her. I tried to stay ahead of her and she said I did great job and that I was a strong rider. I could tell she was pumping pretty hard and I didn't want her to know that I was sucking wind. Then later on she saw my heart rate from the ride it was up there - - HA! Can't wait to try that again!!<
Races/events completed this year:
I ride with a few groups here in South Florida. Every weekend I am out there with one group or another going up or down A1A, these may not be races or events - but they are all unique experiences wih new friends. I will be riding in the MS150 and have been recruited by work to ride in a Century Fund Raiser for March of Dimes on May 17th, care to join me?
Personal Records/Best races:
It's rather strange but every time I ride it becomes a new personal best. I did just complete my first century - notice I said first. I am not doing this for anyone except me or really trying to achieve any lofty goals. I do it because I like to and I have seen results since working with Dara. I am 56 years young and I am trying to beat back the clock - so far I am winning that race!
Athletic achievement/s you are most proud of:
My recent century!
Goals for the coming year/season:
I plan on doing a couple of centuries and would like to take a bike vacation, Napa Valley would be great! Still want to ride down the streets of Dublin Irleand amd have a Guinness at the end of the ride.
Favorite racing and/or training tip-it does not have to be one that I gave you!:
I like to ride in a small pack 7-10 riders. Taking turns leading but only for a mile or so, getting the rhythm going so that you can achieve a fast pace but with a low heart rate. With the right people you are all working as one - it's a great feeling and a terrific work out.
Additional comments/info:
I told Dara that I was a bit apprehensive about the program, then I told her how wrong I was. I look back just a few short months and compare what I could do then to what I can do now. I know I am stronger, I have increased my speed and my stamina. Overall it has been a great experience and I have recommended Dara to others! sooooo Thanks Dara - I appreciate all that you have done.....cheers!
