John Planz

Age: 47

Home town: West Palm Beach, Florida

Occupation: Construction Regional Manager

Past history of sports participation: Division 2 college freshman All-American baseball player, 14-time Ironman Finisher completed 26 marathons

Primary athletic focus currently: Endurance sports, Ironman Triathlon, Marathons

Favorite training or racing experiences: I have had so many it is hard to say but the one that comes to mind every time is the White Lake ½ Ironman. I did the race but the best experience was watching my wife Anna finish her first ½ Ironman.

Races/events completed this year: Marathon of the Palm Beaches, Tupper Lake ½ Ironman, Ironman Louisville, and Lake Worth Triathlon

Favorite race/s: Quelle Challenge Roth, if you ever want to see fan support do this race doing the bike climbs through the crowds will make you feel like you are riding the Tour.

Personal Records/Best races: Personal Best Marathon was 2:54. I haven't done my personal best Ironman yet.

Athletic achievement/s you are most proud of: In 2005 completed Ironman Switzerland two weeks later completed Ironman UK

Goals for the coming year/season: My goal is still to get to 11:40 IM time

Races you are planning on next season: Not yet decided but likely IM Louisville as my long race

Favorite racing and/or training tip: ....is to practice everything how you plan to do it in your race. Practice your pre-race meals and breakfast timing, volume and content on training days. Practice and train with the drink they will use on the race course. Train with the same gear you will use on race day- down to every detail, race clothes, and mental training, etc. . This way you create the feeling on race day that you have been there before and this will help to erase any doubts you may have and help you to feel confident and relaxed.
